What’s In the Air You’re Breathing?

June 28, 2018

As we head into the brutal days of summer, we all try to find a chilled place to cool down and relax for a little while. As you breathe in and out, filling your lungs with cool air, do you ever think of what’s in the air you’re breathing?

The air in your home can be five times more polluted than the air you breathe outside. Yes, it’s true. Chemicals and air pollutants can creep their way into your home if you’re not careful. This can be caused by a number of factors, like emissions from heat and appliances. Poor indoor air quality can have a direct effect on your health and can cause asthma, fatigue and even lung disease. Thankfully, there are easy ways to improve the air quality in your home:

  1. 1) Ventilate your home by opening the doors and windows.

  2. 2) Keep your air conditioning unit spotless. Just about every AC unit has a filter that cleans the air, removing impurities. You should regularly be checking and replacing the filters in your AC, along with your heater or furnace, to ensure high air quality in your home. If you’re not sure how to do this, we can help you.

  3. 3) Adjust your humidity levels. The ideal humidity level in your home should be at 45%. To decrease humidity, open your windows (if the weather is right), turn on your fan, or use your air conditioner.

  4. 4) Vacuum often.

  5. 5) Finally, go green! Get some green plants and adorn your home with them.

We want you to be happy and healthy with the air quality in your home as you escape the hot days of summer, but you can use these tips and tricks throughout the year. Contact us today if you have any questions or need assistance!
